Documentary Galleries: Children

Children are often the most honest reflection of the society in which they live. As I venture through their homelands which are often in flux, economically impoverished, or suffering the effects of war, I witness brief moments in the lives of these children whose openness and laughter has touched me to the core.

There is such simple joy on the faces of the children who are so creative in their play, pulling cigarette boxes on strings, flying plastic bags like kites, or spinning tire hoops with a stick. They emanate a purity and contentment that is often lost on the children of the West whose materialistic desires at such an early age continue into our adulthood. The focus of these photographs are not their daily struggle to survive, but a tribute to their spirit and the heritage which is being passed down to them.

To me these children show hope. They show beauty in a world of chaos and are a reminder that it’s the little things in life which are most precious. Never is it so apparent as through the eyes of a child.
